About CAH

At Citizens for Adequate Housing (CAH), we believe that the way to help the homeless is to not only provide a place to stay—but to also address the four root causes of homelessness.

At our two emergency shelters, the Inn Between (IB) and Inn Transition (IT), we not only offer emergency shelter, we also provide services and programs designed to ensure that our families’ return to independent living is successful. Through our skilled and dedicated staff, we provide training in life, parenting, and employment skills; assistance in finding and maintaining permanent housing; and legal, medical, and mental health referrals. Substance abuse treatment is offered at the Inn Transition.

I’m so grateful that the Inn Between gave me and my son an opportunity for a second chance.

Through the Communities Land Trust we develop and operate affordable housing. We constantly study the issue of homelessness, seeking new ways to eliminate its causes and reduce its effects.

Together, Inn Between and Inn Transition serve 35 to 40 families per year. They have served more than 600 families since CAH established our first shelter, the Inn Between, in 1985. We currently own and operate a total of 16 housing units.

Many of the Inn Transition’s graduates have completed their education and have remained in our local communities, living independent and productive lives. The Inn Between also has an impressive track record. Over 85% of families who leave the IB for permanent housing do not become homeless again.

CAH’s programs offer guidance, support, and a second chance for many families. But it is only through their own hard work and tenacity that individuals and families are able to rebuild their lives and move on independently.
